Top Ten Helpful Tips



1. Buy an Italian sim card (Windtre or Vodafone) as internet can be spotty

  • I paid $45 for four months (approx. $11/mo)

  • They have locations right near the Duomo

2. Beware of scams and tourist traps

  • Near the Duomo, there are many people who put picture prints on the floor, if you step on them accidentally, they want you to pay

3. Walk in groups or pairs at night. I felt safe most of the time, but you never know.

5. Take a pic in front of the Duomo with friends. The semester goes by fast, do it before leaving

6. Make sure you understand roommate etiquette

  • Having a clean room & living areas

7. It’s very important to communicate with your roommates!

8. Prevent getting fined

  • Make sure you have the train tickets printed or digitally on email

  • Make sure you bought the bus tickets before getting onto the bus REGARDLESS if there is a machine to buy tickets inside the bus

9. Try your best to learn the language and the culture before your going

  • Also speak in the language as much as you can!

10. Be aware of store hours

  • Store lunch hours are from 12-4pm (sometimes 5pm)

  • Grocery stores and restaurants

  • Plan ahead especially when going to smaller cities
